Earth Hour – Will you cast your vote for the Earth?
On Saturday, March 28 2009, you will have the opportunity cast your vote for the Earth. The World Wildlife Fund is asking all the citizens of Earth to turn off their lights for one hour. It doesn’t really matter if you think that climate change is caused by humans or if we are just accelerating a natural cycle. What matters is that we do something about it! By participating in this event we can send a message to the world leaders that we want our governments to act now instead of later. (Sign up here EARTH HOUR)
Turning off your lights from 8:30 – 9:30pm will cast your vote for the Earth, not turning off your lights will cast a vote that we are not concerned with global climate change. The US will join more than 1,500 cities, towns and villages in 80 countries including Beijing, Berlin, Copenhagen, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Mexico City, Moscow, Nairobi, Paris, Rome, Sydney, and Toronto as Earth Hour cascades through the world’s time zones on this historic night. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December of 2009.
The Kyoto Protocol, which was initially adopted for use on December 11th 1997, is slated to expire in 2012 and the conference in Copenhagen will determine what future actions that the world governments will take against global warming. By turning off your lights for one hour on 3/28/2009 we can show the future generations that we do care what happens to the only planet that call ours.
