Climate bill….To change or not to change
There is a lot of conversation these days about whether or not the US needs to pass a bill to begin alleviating the tremendous amounts carbon dioxide that we emit into the atmosphere. Does carbon dioxide actually affect our climate? If so how do we implement a plan that doesn’t hurt our fragile economy while still ensuring that the plan is making a positive strides towards the goals that have been set. Along with that there is the need for all nations to invest wisely when it comes to the planning and installation of new power plants. All of this seems like a large challenge in a desperate time, one that could have dire consequences if we don’t act soon.
I do believe that the carbon dioxide we pour into the atmosphere is contributing to naturally occurring event. I know that there are many skeptical people that think this is just a hoax or a way of funding scientific research but common sense tells me that the amount of C02 being emitted these days has to be having an affect on our planet. If you stop and think about all the vehicles, power plants, manufacturing plants, processing plants as well as naturally occurring sources there has to be an impact in my opinion. Ice cores that have been examined show the rise and fall of C02 levels throughout time and how that relates to the changes in climate, this tells us the history and fragility of our planet.
In Washington these days things seem to move along party lines instead of what’s in the best interest for the public. If my boss told me that he wanted something done and I told him that his idea wasn’t good without having another option I wouldn’t be employed for too long. Our politicians need to take a similar approach and come to the table with a better idea rather than saying they don’t agree with the current proposal. This issue will be the most important issue we face in our lifetime and we have to solve it together.
