Reva to manufacture EV’s in NY

Indian car manufacturer Reva Electric Car has selected Syracuse, N.Y., to build its plug-in EV’s, this new facility should be capable of producing 20,000 cars a year and they are in hopes it will be operational by the third quarter of 2010.  The estimated price for the base model is around 12,000, the range is 75 miles and the top end speed is approx 50 mph.

This car reminds  me of the Smart cars and while I don’t mind the looks of these vehicles the size of this car compared to the normal US cars would be a concern. I love the idea of this EV and the price seems alright, the safety factor is a major concern in vehicle such as this. I can see a car like this do well in Europe as there are a lot of card this size on the road there now. IN my opinion it’s going to take another large gas price increase for US drivers to even consider this car as an every day commuter.
